Das Thema Vereinbarkeit von Mutterschaft und wissenschaftlicher Karriere wird seit einigen Jahren sehr intensiv diskutiert. Die Publikation von Sarah Czerney, Silke Martin und Lena Eckert geht einen neuen Weg, in dem nicht nur auf das Thema Elternschaft rekurriert, sondern auf ein allgemeines, in der Gesellschaft fest verankertes Bild der Frau als potenzielle Mutter. Es werden Erfahrungen von Wissenschaftler:innen aus verschiedenen Fachgebieten in unterschiedlichen Funktionen gesammelt um ein diverses Bild der Problematik zu zeichnen. Die Unvereinbarkeit sei, so die Herausgeber:innen, den „symbolischen, psychischen, historischen, ökonomischen und politischen Koordinaten geschuldet“. In dieser thematischen Fokussierung wird nichts beschönigt, es werden keine Held:innengeschichten erzählt. Die Publikation ist vielmehr eine Bestandanalyse, die zu dem Schluss kommt: es braucht nicht nur eine Schärfung des Diskurses, sondern konsequente Veränderungen der wissenschaftlichen Praxis.
