Die fortschreitende Literaturentwicklung von der Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts bis A. S. Puschkin wird wesentlich durch die Abschnitte der politischen und Geistesgeschichte Russlands bestimmt. Die in diesem Band vorgestellten Dichterpersönlichkeiten sind jeweils in den Zeitabschnitt eingeordnet, in dem das Hauptgewicht ihres Wirkens liegt. In der Auswahl der Texte wurden ausgewogen alle Genres, einschließlich publizistischer und literaturtheoretischer, berücksichtigt, je nach der Relevanz der Werke für den Prozess der fortschreitenden Aufklärung und Verbürgerlichung (Feudalismus- und Absolutismuskritik, Menschenrechte, Humanismus und andere bürgerliche Ideale) als auch für das künstlerische Reifen der russischen Literatur
