Series Statement: FO1093: Foreign Office: Permanent Under-Secretary's Department: Registered and Unregistered Papers FO1093-527
Content: A file of reports, correspondence, and memoranda discussing a speculative Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) paper on the effects of a Soviet occupation of Western Europe. The report makes a number of predictions about the situation in Western Europe after a massive Soviet invasion and occupation, including the installation of puppet governments; the elimination of the elites; the assumption of control over the economy and agriculture of each country; and the levels of resistance in each country. The file also includes a series of letters and memoranda discussing the conclusions of the report and vigorously contesting several of its premises, such as the assumption that there would be no large-scale use of atomic weapons. The documents also discuss the problematic compilation of the report, and whether it was at all a useful exercise
