This book discusses the problem of inequality in cultural participation and the importance of museums as spaces that help counteract social inequalities. In the 20th century, Mexico and some of its cultural agents were pioneers in participating in critiques of the traditional museum and embarking on new formats in favor of more diverse audiences. An example is La Casa del Museo (Mexico City, 1972-1980), an experimental project developed by the Museo Nacional de Antropología (MNA) who took exhibitions and activities to the streets on neighborhoods from the then outskirts of Mexico City. In this interdisciplinary study linked to historical anthropology and museology, the author combines the analysis of the project's archive, fieldwork in the different localities and interviews with different people involved
