Content: Descriptive report of the rehabilitation project of the Perpetua Prisons in the colonial building in what once housed the Court of the Holy Inquisition and later became the National School of Medicine of the UNAM, CDMX. 2020. The Old Palace of the Inquisition, today the Palace of Medicine, constitutes one of the most important historical complexes of the built heritage of UNAM and the country. The restoration of the La Perpetua prisons, the title of the work, constituted in turn the last link in the rescue and rehabilitation of said complex, which the multidisciplinary team of the University, in coordination with the INAH, carried out for almost a decade and which concluded in 2020. This book, coordinated by Dr. Xavier Cortés Rocha and teacher Coral Ordoñez Nischli, addresses this ambitious project in its four chapters. In its first chapter, The prisons of the Holy Office of the Inquisitionʺ, the historical background of the prison construction project, details of its design, materials used, as well as the subsequent uses and adaptations to which it was subjected after the suppression of the Inquisition. Its second chapter emphasizes the transformations that the property underwent and presents a historical overview of the functioning of the building. This panorama is based on documentary research collected from reliable sources such as the General Archive of the Nation, among others. Likewise, it focuses on narrating the events of its last intervention carried out between 1792 and 1804; It also shows its occupation as a neighborhood during the 20th century and its subsequent integration into the UNAM heritage. The third chapter specifically deals with restoration, since it covers the entire intervention process that ranges from the preliminary work, shoring up of structural elements, restructuring and treatments proposed in the architectural projects. This chapter addresses the most extensive restoration work, as it highlights the rescue of the large number of quarry elements, arches, framing, friezes and skirting boards; In addition, notable is the work to recover the gray quarry lintels, the replacement of their flattening, the blacksmithing work, treatment of beams, recovery of pink stone floors and moldings of openings, among many other processes, which included INAH supervision. It is worth highlighting the importance given to the work, based especially on charters, standards and other series of international provisions that advocate governing the conservation of heritage worldwide. Finally, the fourth chapter takes up the prison character of the enclosures that were historically built for these purposes; However, it lands on the transformation that they are subject to, some of these, for recreation and tourism purposes, The prisons of attractionʺ, the title of this last chapter offers an interesting list of recreational and intellectual amenities that it enjoys today Today, as a Museum, this historic site, and at the same time we are invited to enjoy it in complete freedom
