It discusses image reproduction methods such as autotype and collotype, as well as the evolution in quality and precision of illustrations, especially in archaeology and ethnography.

Centrándose en el trabajo de Eduard Seler y Caecilie Seler-Sachs, este texto examina cómo los avances tecnológicos en la industria de la impresión durante el siglo XIX y principios del XX impactaron la representación visual en las publicaciones científicas. Se discuten métodos de reproducción de imágenes como la autotipia y la fototipia, así como la evolución en la calidad y la precisión de las ilustraciones, especialmente en la arqueología y la etnografía.
