According to the author, the present state of the world as a whole, and of the Asia-Pacific Region (APR), in particular, appears to be developing mainly in a direction favouring positive shifts in the Korean Peninsula, on which the prospects for Soviet-South Korean relations largely depend. He explores revolutionary changes in the USSR's internal policies, the process of real nuclear disarmament inaugurated by the Soviet-American INF Treaty, Soviet policy in the APR, the problems of the Korean Peninsula and state of and prospects for Soviet-South Korean relations.
