Schloß Letzlingen ist das einzig erhaltene Hohenzollernschloß in Sachsen-Anhalt. Anfangs vor allem als Jagdschloß genutzt, erweckte es der preußische König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. nach 1841 zu neuem Leben. Das unter seiner maßgeblichen Wirkung von Stüler im neugotischen Stil umgebaute Schloß wurde zum Ausgangsort vielen Hofjagden. Kaiser Wilhelm I. jagte dort ebenso wie sein Enkel Wilhelm II. Einer der prominentesten Jagdgäste war Reichskanzler Otto von Bismarck. Dieser erste Teil der Monografie befaßt sich vor allem mit der Bau-, Nutzungs- und Jagdgeschichte des Schlosses von 1559 bis 1861. Und diese Geschichte spiegelt gleichermaßen altmärkische Heimat- und deutsche Nationalgeschichte.
