Rezension: Ahmed Rashid, ein kritischer pakistanischer Journalist, berichtet seit 21 (!) Jahren aus und über Afghanistan. Entsprechend ist sein Buch über die Taliban, diese ultrafundamentalistischen Kämpfer, keineswegs ein Schnellschuss, sondern eine ausgesprochen gründlich recherchierte, solide, seriöse, kompetente und umfassende Darstellung. Er berichtet über die Geschichte der Taliban-Regierung und die Gründe ihres Erfolgs, über das Verhältnis der Taliban zum Islam und umgekehrt der Muslime zu den Taliban, und (ganz wichtig, denn hier bieten sich neue Sichtweisen) die skrupellose Politik der Großmächte um Öl und Pipelines durch Afghanistan (hierzu erscheint eben in Frankreich ein Buch, das großes Aufsehen erregte).
