Dieses Buch ist dem Design des austro-amerikanischen Architekten und Künstlers Friedrich Kiesler (1890-1965) gewidmet. Bisher unbekanntes Material zu seinen innovativen Entwürfen und Prototypen von Sitzmöbeln der 1930er und 1940er Jahre wird hier zum ersten Mal veröffentlicht. Briefe, private Tagebuchaufzeichnungen und Fotos dokumentieren das kulturelle New Yorker Umfeld, in dem Friedrich Kiesler tätig war. Sie eröffnen neue Einsichten in Bezug auf seine Rolle innerhalb der zeitgenössischen Designerszene. 1925 übersiedelt Kiesler nach New York, wo er schnell die Rolle des Vermittlers zwischen den verschiedenen europäischen und amerikanischen Positionen in Design und Architektur einnimmt. Er entwirft in der Folge Möbeleinrichtungen, gestaltet Ausstellungen und formuliert Thesen zu einer kritisch-funktionalen Design- und Architekturtheorie.
