    Note: The Romaunt of the Rose is a Middle English version/translation of the Roman de la Rose, consisting of three fragments, the first of which, and sometimes the third, are ascribed to Chaucer , The Old French poem Roman de la Rose was begun by Guillaume de Lorris (verses 1-4058) and later completed by Jean de Meun , Sutherland's text of the Roman de la Rose is a composite of readings from whichever manuscripts most closely parallel the Middle English text of the Romaunt of the Rose.
