Israel is known for its positive approach to science and technologies, both on the level of public discourse and on the level of regulation. Traditionally, this is explained with Jewish believes not opposing to medical technologies which are highly controversial in other cultures. I argue that in order to fully understand the phenomenon, we need to take into account political narratives as well. Zionism has traditionally embraced science and technology. Furthermore, the demographic threatʺ towards the Jewish majority population in Israel to be outnumbered by non-Jews in the not too distant future provides a context of risk to the discourse on Israeli cellsʺ, which renders them a crucial ressource to ensure the continuity of the Jewish-Israeli collective in the Middle East.
