Das heutige Sachsen war 1989/90 im dreifachen Sinne Vorreiter. Erstens bildete die Bevölkerung zwischen Görlitz, Plauen und Leipzig die Speerspitze der "friedlichen Revolution". Zweitens war es vielerorts eine "ausgehandelte" Revolution, eine Revolution zwischen Konfrontation und Konzession. Drittens forcierten die vorwärtstreibenden Vorgänge in Sachsen maßgeblich die "deutsche" Revolution hin zur nationalen Einheit. Der "deutsche Herbst" war - vor allem in Sachsen - kein Automatismus. Bürgerrechtler, ehemalige Repräsentanten des DDR-Systems und Wissenschaftler erinnern in diesem Band an die Voraussetzungen, den Verlauf und die Folgen der "friedlichen Revolution" wie der deutschen Einheit in Sachsen.
