Dekalog Eins: Pawel, ein 13jähriger Junge, beschäftigt sich, wie sein Vater, mit dem Computer. Beide lösen gerne mathematische Aufgaben. Pawels Fragen nach dem Sinn von Leben und Sterben der Menschen beantwortet der Vater entsprechend seiner rationalen Weltsicht. Pawels Tante dagegen ist gläubig und versucht, ihm ihre Auffassung zu vermitteln. - Vater und Sohn berechnen mit dem Computer die Dicke des Eises auf dem zugefrorenen Dorfteich: Es ist stark genug, um das mehrfache Gewicht Pawels zu tragen. - Am nächsten Tag kommt Pawel nicht nach Hause. Er ist auf dem Eis eingebrochen und ertrunken. -- Dekalog Zwei: Um Gewißheit zu erlangen, ob ihr Mann Andrzej wirklich sterben muß, sucht Dorota den Arzt in seiner Wohnung auf. Sie ist verzweifelt, da sie von einem anderen Mann schwanger ist. Falls Andrzej sterben sollte, will sie das Kind zur Welt bringen, wird er wieder gesund, würde sie eine Abtreibung vornehmen. Erst kurz vor dem geplanten Schwangerschaftsabbruch versichert ihr der Arzt, daß Andrzej sterben wird. Dorota behält das Kind. Aber wider Erwarten wird Andrzej gesund.
