Le voyage d'Europe la conduit d'Orient en Occident où elle donne son nom au continent européen. De l'Antiquité à nos jours, l'histoire de l'art est parsemée de représentations de ce mythe. De la statuaire hellénique aux artistes contemporains, de siècle en siècle, de la Renaissance aux temps modernes, la peinture, la poésie et la musique ont rebondi vers les sources millénaires. Jeune fille "ravie", puis amante à l'époque romaine, plus tard jeune reine élégante, le taureau apaisé à ses côtés.
