In the middle of the nineteenth century, the major restoration of heritage buildings occurred throughout France including the Sainte-Chapelle Notre-Dame de Paris, Chartres cathedral and many others. Talented sculptor, Adolphe-Victor Geoffroy Dechaume (1816-1892) was enlisted to work on these prestigious projects. He also excels in the realization of castings on the nature and design models of gold jewelry. Beyond an iconic career of a nineteenth century eclectic, Geoffroy-Dechaume was the faithful friend of some of the most important artists of the era, such as Jean-Baptiste Corot, Honore Daumier, Charles-Francois Daubigny Antoine-Louis Barye. This book traces the history of the fraternal network of Ile Saint-Louis, highlighting the quality and intensity of personal and professional exchanges between the men.
