Le domaine de Malmaison, acheté par Bonaparte en 1799, lui permit de réaliser ce rêve. Entourée des plus grands botanistes de son temps, elle en fit le plus beau jardin d'Europe et y installa sa collection d'oiseaux exotiques et de plantes rares. Ses roses, ses animaux et les aménagements du parc furent immortalisés par de nombreux artistes, notamment Pierre Joseph Redouté, et par les témoignages éblouis des visiteurs.0
