Chr.) frei von Affekten und unabhängig gegenüber allen Dingen der Außenwelt sein. Er sollte Haltung bewahren und nicht zu viel erwarten. "Die Meinung der anderen muss dir gleichgültig sein! Lass dich nicht aus der Fassung bringen! Wahre das rechte Maß!" Das kleine "Handbuch der Moral" hatte große Wirkung auf das frühe Christentum und das Denken der Menschen in byzantinischer Zeit. Goethe schätzte den Autor mehr als die so genannten großen Philosophen.
