Seine Analyse zeigt, wie Mediengewalt entsteht.Fernsehschaffende vom Reporter bis zur Redaktionsleiterin, die für Fernsehformate von RTL explosiv bis zur Tagesschau tätig sind, erläutern freimütig, warum sie bevorzugt über tödliche und sexuelle Gewalt berichten und warum sie Opfer in den Mittelpunkt stellen – vor allem Kinder. Das aus journalistischer Sicht ideale Opfer ist jung, weiblich, deutsch, unschuldig und stammt aus besseren Verhältnissen. Was einem solchen Opfer geschieht, so nehmen die Fernsehschaffenden an, geht dem Publikum nahe.Die in den Forschungsinterviews geschilderten Muster von Auswahl und Thematisierung werden durch eine Programmanalyse von Nachrichtensendungen und Boulevardmagazinen gestützt. So wird vor allem über tödliche und sexuelle Gewalt an Mädchen und Frauen berichtet, während die Gewalt an alten Menschen und nichtdeutschen Opfern fast vollständig ausgeblendet wird
