Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Fragestellung, inwieweit die Integrität der phonologischen Sprachverarbeitung für den erfolgreichen Schriftspracherwerb bei deutschsprachigen Kindern relevant ist. Hierbei bilden Fähigkeiten zur phonologischen Bewusstheit (PhB) den Schwerpunkt. Der erfolgreiche Schriftspracherwerb ist nicht nur für den Bildungserfolg mit den damit verbundenen beruflichen und sozio‑ökonomischen Perspektiven wichtig, sondern auch für die aktive Teilhabe am sozialen und kulturellen Leben in unserer Gesellschaft.Die Bestandteile dieser publikationsbasierten Dissertation sind eine Monographie (Schnitzler, 2008), ein Beitrag in einem Sammelwerk (Schnitzler, 2013) sowie zwei Zeitschriftenartikel (Schnitzler, 2014, 2015). Die ersten beiden Publikationen beschäftigen sich mit der Entwicklung der PhB sowie Zusammenhängen zwischen PhB und Schriftsprachfertigkeiten.
