Henry von Heiseler wurde in Russland geboren. Er las russische Autoren, liebte das russische Theater, bevorzugte St. Petersburg gegenüber Berlin, war russischer Staatsbürger und Offizier. Aber er war mit einer deutschen Frau verheiratet, stammte aus baltendeutscher lutherischer Tradition und hatte Sprachkenntnisse, die ihn als Übersetzer begehrt machten. In Russland faszinierte ihn der Religionsphilosoph Iwanow, in Deutschland der Dichter Stefan George, zu dessen Kreis er gehörte. Heiseler führte ein Leben mit zwei Polen, einem östlichen und einem westlichen, er hoffte darauf die Grenzzäune und -mauern hinter sich zu lassen. Diese Untersuchung zu Henry von Heiseler am Grenzrain von Literatur und Theologie möchte an alte Wurzeln des Deutschrussischen erinnern und sie erhalten helfen.
