Two articles on Japanese foreign policy issues in respect of Asia-Pacific security and the United Nations. In this article, Y. Satoh, the Ambassador of Japan to the Netherlands, looks at the post-Cold War security conditions of the Asia-Pacific region, notes the necessity of economic cooperation for Asia-Pacific security and points out that Japan-US cooperation is the key element for the security of the region. M. Itoh discusses Japan's growing influence in the United Nations and advocates that Japan and Germany should become permanent members of the UN Security Council. (DÜI-Sen)
