"Das Thema 'Medium Architektur' wurde anhand von drei Ausgangsthesen diskutiert: Erstens ist Architektur selbst ein Medium und steht auch im Dominanzwettstreit mit anderen Medien. Victor Hugo konnte deshalb schon 1832 den Tod der Architektur durch das Buch heraufdämmern sehen. Zweitens bedarf Architektur der Repräsentation/Simulation in anderen Medien, in denen sich der architektonische Diskurs bewegt, von der Zeichnung über die Sprache bis zur Virtual Reality. Und drittens entsteht in diesen Medien eine Sphäre der virtuellen Architektur, die ihr Eigenleben entfaltet, vor allem in den 'neuen Medien', deren Simulations- und Immersionskraft eine neue Qualität darstellt. Wichtig erscheint, dass sich die Architektur dieser Kulturtechniken aktiv bedient und -- statt sie zu ignorieren -- diese in ihr System einbaut." -- "The topic 'Medium Architecture' was discussed on the basis of three initial theses: First, architecture itself is a medium and is also in dominance competition with other media. That's why Victor Hugo was able to see the death of architecture sinking through the book as early as 1832. Second, architecture requires representation / simulation in other media in which architectural discourse moves, from drawing to language to virtual reality. And thirdly, these media create a sphere of virtual architecture that unfolds its own life, especially in the 'new media', whose simulation and immersion power represents a new quality. It seems important that the architecture of these cultural techniques actively uses and -- instead of ignoring them -- incorporates them into their system."
