Stefan Zweig, einer der erfolgreichsten Autoren seiner Epoche, sprach im Hinblick auf seine Biographie über seine "drei Leben" - diese Sichtweise macht sich die Ausstellung zu eigen und stellt in einem Rundgang Stationen seines Lebens vor. Ausgehend von Kindheit und Jugend in Wien, endet das erste Kapitel über den jungen Schriftsteller mit den Erschütterungen der scheinbar sicheren Welt des Bürgertums durch den Ersten Weltkrieg. Im Mittelpunkt des zweiten Teils steht die Schreibwerkstatt Stefan Zweigs. Von 1919 lebte Stefan Zweig in seiner Wahlheimat Salzburg, 1934 verließ er aus politischen Gründen Österreich und siedelte nach Großbritannien über. Die letzten Jahre seines Lebens verbringt Stefan Zweig als Emigrant auf der Flucht von einem Land zum nächsten. 1942 hat er in Brasilien seinem "dritten Leben" gemeinsam mit seiner zweiten Ehefrau ein Ende gesetzt.
