Fotografa, scrittrice e intellettuale, Lucia Moholy (nata Lucia Schulz, Karolinenthal, Praga, 1894 - Zollikon, Zurigo, 1989) è una figura centrale nella storia della fotografia del Novecento, nonostante la sua opera sia stata a lungo messa in ombra dalla fama del marito, il celebre artista László Moholy-Nagy. Nella sua produzione fotografica, parte integrante dell’avanguardia tedesca della Neue Sachlichkeit (Nuova Oggettività), spicca l'eccezionale documentazione da lei realizzata sull’esperienza del Bauhaus: le immagini della scuola, i ritratti dei maestri, gli oggetti e gli arredi, sono considerate delle vere e proprie icone della cultura del moderno. Attraverso i saggi accolti in questo volume – il più completo in lingua italiana dedicato alla fotografa – è possibile comprendere e delineare la complessità della sua personalità artistica, al fine di restituirle il dovuto ruolo all’interno della storia della cultura del XX secolo.
