Die Schwestern Renate Harpprecht und Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, geboren in Breslau, haben die Konzentrationslager Auschwitz und Bergen-Belsen überlebt. Anita, Cellistin des so genannten Mädchenorchesters von Auschwitz, ist Mitbegründerin des English Chamber Orchestra in London, Renate arbeitete nach Kriegsende als Journalistin bei der BBC in London, später für den WDR in Köln und für das ZDF in den USA. Die Erinnerungen an ihren Überlebenskampf erscheinen in dem Buch »Mich hat Auschwitz nie verlassen. Überlebende des Konzentrationslagers berichten«. Weltweit haben SPIEGEL-Redakteure und -Mitarbeiter ehemalige Häftlinge des Konzentrationslagers besucht und befragt, Susanne Beyer und Martin Doerry haben diese Berichte zusammengestellt.
