Unter den zehntausend Kulturschaffenden aller Disziplinen, die ab 1933 von den Nationalsozialisten ins weltweite Exil vertrieben wurden, waren auch mehrere hundert bildende Künstler. Außer den wenigen Berühmten wie Max Beckmann, Oskar Kokoschka, George Grosz oder Max Ernst gerieten die meisten nach 1945, als Abstraktion und Informel vorherrschten, in unverdiente Vergessenheit, obwohl sie bis 1933 durchaus eine wichtige Rolle gespielt hatten - wie z.B. Eugen Spiro, Charlotte Berend-Corinth, Lotte Laserstein, Rudolf Levy oder Josef Scharl. Wie sehr zu Unrecht sie nicht mehr präsent sind, dokumentiert vorliegender Bildband.
