1932 macht sich der Satiriker Kurt Tucholsky auf den Weg nach Schweden, wo er den Urlaub zum Schreiben einer leichten Sommergeschichte nutzen will. Dabei wird er von seiner lebenslustigen Muse Lydia begleitet. Doch an Arbeit ist zunächst nicht zu denken. Das liegt erstens an der rechtsradikalen Stimmung, die sich in Deutschland allmählich breit macht und Kurt aufs Äußerste beunruhigt, und zweitens an dem unerwarteten Besuch von Lydias Freundin, der verruchten Varieté-Künstlerin Billie, die für jede Menge Zerstreuung sorgt ...
