Stabilisierungsmaßnahmen als Aspekt von friedenserhaltenden Missionen der UNO thematisiert dieser Beitrag am Beispiel der Mission der Afrikanischen Union (AU) in Somalia (AMISOM). Die Autoren stellen dabei die Entwicklung von AMISOM von der militärischen Eindämmung eines Krieges zur Gewährleistung von Sicherheit in dem vom militanten Islamismus destabilisierten Land ins Zentrum ihrer Darstellung. Am Beginn steht die Analyse der Entwicklung seit Beginn der Mission im Jahr 2007. Für den Übergang zu einer Stabilisierungsmission identifizieren die Autoren zehn Herausforderungen, die 2013 zu einer Neudefinition der Ziele von AMISOM führten. Sie beschreiben vier Maßnahmen, die im Anschluss an diese Neuausrichtung seit 2014 zur Stabilisierung der Lage in Somalia durchgeführt wurden. Die Darstellung schließt mit dem Aufzeigen einer Reihe von Lehren für zukünftige Stabilisierungsmissionen der UNO, die sich aus dem Einsatz in Somalia ziehen lassen.
