Der Beitrag untersucht die Auswirkungen der innenpolitischen und wirtschaftlichen Krise Brasiliens für dessen außenpolitische Rolle und die regionale Ordnung Lateinamerikas. Der Verfasser erklärt das Scheitern des brasilianischen Südamerika-Projekts (Entkoppelung von Südamerika und Lateinamerika) und erläutert die Frage, ob durch Brasiliens Schwäche auch der Konsens unter den BRICS-Staaten (Brasilien, Russland, Indien, China und Südafrika) zerbricht. Der Autor prognostiziert, dass die USA künftig eine aktivere Rolle in Südamerika spielen werden.
