Dusty Springfield galt als eine der besten weißen Sängerinnen der 1960er-Jahre. Die zierliche Engländerin konnte etliche Hits verbuchen, darunter "If you go away", "You can have him", "You don't have to say you love me", "Breakaway", "Little by little", "I close my eyes and count to ten", "Son of a preacher man", "I just don't know what to do with myself" u.v.a. Die 'white queen of soul' sang mit ihrer schwarzen Stimme auch viele für den amerikanischen Soulmarkt komponierten Songs von Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Solomon Burke, Smokey Robinson u.a. Nach dem großen Erfolg beim San Remo Song Festival produzierte die BBC 2 TV Serien mit Dusty Springfield, die von September 1966 bis September 1967 ausgestrahlt wurden und eine ganze Reihe von Hits präsentierten.
