Content: Summary of the history of the story of Anna and the King starting from real events, through the book, film, stage play and musical. It uses B&W stills and footage from both the 1945 film Anna and the King of Siam (that starred Rex Harrison as the King and Irene Dunne) and the 1956 musical. Includes contributions from Steven Suskin (Broadway historian & author), Laurence Mason (Broadway historian), Richard Barrios (film historian & author), Ted Chapin & Bruce Pomahac (respectively, President & Director of Music, Rogers and Hammerstein Organisation) and Gemze de Lappe (Principal dancer in both Broadway & film versions) plus recordings of the voices of Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein. Much of this is fairly light weight although there is some very interesting ideas about the social implications in the Eisenhower era of The King and I being a plea for the US to understand other cultures.
