Haanstras erster abendfüllender Dokumentarfilm zeichnet ein Panorama auf die niederländische Gesellschaft zu Beginn der sechziger Jahre. Die Lebensgewohnheiten der Niederländer hat Haanstra überwiegend mit der versteckten Kamera beobachtet. Er filmte ganz durchschnittliche Menschen und war bei vielen alltäglichen Ereignissen dabei. Scheinbar unbedeutende Details führt er vor Augen, die durch seine einfallsreiche Montage zu einem humorvollen, aber durchaus ernst gemeinten Porträt der Niederländer werden, das in Verbindung mit dem ironischen Kommentar von Simon Carmiggelt Amüsement pur verspricht. Während des Internationalen Dokumentarfilmfestivals IDFA in Amsterdam wurde am 2. Dezember 2007 der abendfüllende Film ALLEMAN (dt. Verleihtitel 12 MILLIONEN) von Bert Haanstra zum besten niederländischen Dokumentarfilm seit 1945 ausgerufen. Unter dem Motto "Die Wahl des Zuschauers" stimmten die Niederländer via Internet ab.
