I Am My Films - Better than Herzog's autobiographical Portrait Werner Herzog, this doc mixes behind-the-scenes footage during the shooting of Stroszek with scenes from his films (a little too much of that, in my opinion) and interviews with the documentarian. Highlights include some playful trash-talking with the actors, stories from Aguirre that I don't recall hearing anywhere else, and discussion about his staging of false scenes in his own documentaries. Apparently Herzog wants cinema verité wiped off the face of the Earth, an attitude I don't agree with at all but is amusing and fits in with his ideas about ecstatic truth. There's also an interesting bit where Herzog and the interviewer struggle with the direction the documentary is going, fearing it's becoming too much like a "talk show." (Martin Teller)
