In these films we meet something that is very special for Leo Hurwitz - a desire to give us, the audience, an immediate experience of what he himself has seen and experienced - to make us see what is there, in a landscape, in the light of the city, in a piece of art. (FilmCentrum, Stockholm)
Content:
Following his focus on art, painting, and sculpture in his work of the previous decades, Hurwitz took on a project for the American Foundation of the Arts aimed at deepening and enriching, for art students, the way in which we see. Working with his young second wife, the editor Peggy Lawson, he made four short films comprising the series, THE ART OF SEEING. The films, made without words, are beautiful poems to the pleasure of sight. (Anthology Film Archives). Series "The Art of Seeing" : Light and the Country (16 Minuten); Light and the City (12 Minuten); Discovery in a Landscape (30 Minuten); Discovery in a Painting (30 Minuten). Two of the four are included here.
