" Rezension(2): "〈a href=http://www.audiofilemagazine.com target=_blank〉〈img src=https://images.contentreserve.com/audiofile_logo.jpg alt=AudioFile Magazine border=0 /〉〈/a〉:Narrator Mary Jane Wells's rich voice immediately draws the listener into the author's long awaited return to historical romance, set in England in the 1800s. Devon Ravenel never anticipated inheriting an earldom. But with the death of his cousin, he becomes the earl, which means he now has responsibility for a debt-ridden estate and his cousin's three marriageable sisters. Also in residence is his cousin's widow of three days, Kathleen, Lady Trenear. Wells evocatively depicts the passion that arises between Devon and Kathleen and elicits laughs with the mischief that Devon's cousins manage to get into. Listeners will be cheering for Devon as he attempts to rebuild the estate. This is a perfect blend of narrator and story. Devon Ravenel inherits an earldom, a rotting estate, a houseful of female relations, and a mess of debt when his cousin is thrown from a horse and killed. Devon initially wishes to sell the property and get back to his bachelor ways, but his passion for his cousin’s widow and his dedication to rescuing the estate both sneak up on him. That passion, however, takes an ugly turn, with many of the more physical scenes pushing the boundaries of consent. At times the story feels more like a case of Stockholm syndrome than a blossoming romance, souring the enjoyability of an otherwise well-crafted story. Agent: Mel Berger, William Morris Endeavor. "
