Elf Monate nach seiner Befreiung aus dem Konzentrationslager hielt Viktor E. Frankl im März 1946 eine Reihe von Vorträgen an der Volkshochschule des Wiener Arbeiterbezirks Ottakring. Der Psychologe, der später weltberühmt werden sollte, erklärte seine zentralen Gedanken zu Lebenssinn und Resilienz. Ausgehend von seiner eigenen Maxime "Lebe so, als ob du zum zweiten Male lebtest", entfaltet Frankl seine Grundüberzeugung, dass Menschsein in jeder Lebenslage Auch-anders-Können bedeutet. Eindringliche Belege dafür sind seine eigenen schmerzhaften Erfahrungen von Verlust, Hunger und Todesangst, die dennoch Hoffnung, Freundschaft und Sinnerfahrung in der Lagerhaft zuließen. Frankls Lebensthema ist von ungebrochener Aktualität: Jede Krise beinhaltet auch eine Chance - nämlich die eigene Menschlichkeit unter Beweis zu stellen.

Viktor E. Frankl (1905 - 1997) wurde in Wien geboren.Seine Eltern, sein Bruder und seine erste Frau starben in Konzentrationslagern, er selbst entging dem Tod nach der Odyssee durch vier Konzentrationslager nur knapp. Nach seiner Rückkehr wurde er Professor für Neurologie und Psychiatrie an der Universität Wien und hatte Professuren in den USA inne. Als erster Psychologe stellte er die Erfahrung von Sinn ins Zentrum der therapeutischen Praxis. Die Bücher des Begründers der Logotherapie erschienen in 24 Sprachen.
