Biographisches: "Marianne Philips, geboren 1886 in Amsterdam, war Politikerin, Schriftstellerin und Mutter von drei Kindern. Sie war Mitglied der Sozialdemokratischen Arbeiterpartei und wurde 1919 als eines der ersten weiblichen Ratsmitglieder der Niederlande gewählt. Sie schrieb fünf Romane und einige Novellen. Ab 1940 war ihr das Publizieren als Jüdin untersagt. Sie überlebte den Krieg, war aber krankheitshalber bis zu ihrem Lebensende (1951) ans Bett gefesselt."
