Il s'agit de la question du fond au cinéma. La notion est d'abord envisagée à travers diverses disciplines (philosophie, peinture, musique) où elle s'oppose à celle de figure.Le détail des "feuilles qui bougent" du film Lumière, Le Repas de bébé (1895), qui a tellement attiré l'attention des commentateurs, sert d'exemple séminal pour accéder à des œuvres très contemporaines (Rivette, Guiguet, Fitoussi, Straub-Huillet, Civeyrac, Oliveira, etc.). Il apparaît alors nécessaire d'avancer la notion de Fond cinématographique moderne pour l'opposer au fond tel qu'on l'entend traditionnellement. Une catégorisation est proposée sans ignorer qu'elle ne prétend pas couvrir l'ensemble des manifestations du Fond, ni même que d'une catégorie à l'autre les chevauchements sont possibles. Cette classification se veut une première investigation d'un chantier consacré aux différents aspects visuels et sonores du Fond cinématographique

It deals with the question of background in cinema. At first, the notion is seen through various disciplines (philosophy, painting, music), where it opposes itself to the idea of figure. One detail of the film by the Lumière Brothers Baby's lunch (Le Repas de bébé, 1895), the “moving leaves” constitutes a seminal example leading to very contemporary works (Rivette, Guiguet, Fitoussi,Straub-Huillet, Civeyrac, Oliveira, etc.). It seems necessary, then, to put forward the notion of cinematographical Background, opposed to the notion of background as it is traditionally exposed. A categorization is proposed, which notwithstanding does not claim to cover the whole manifestations of the background, nor deny that there are connections between different categories. This categorization intends to be the first investigation on a yard devoted to the various aspects of sound and vision in cinematographical Background
