Für den Deckenschmuck der Abtsstube schlägt die Studie erstmalig eine Deutung vor. Sie versteht die sieben Medaillons als Bildprogramm zur Verherrlichung des Klosterpatrons und bezieht die sechs Tiersujets, die den Drachentöter St. Georg umgeben, typologisch auf die Zentralfigur. Zum Nachweis dieser Möglichkeit ermittelt sie zunächst anhand von Quellen die herkömmlichen allegorischen Auslegungen der Tiere (Physiologustradition); dann zeigt sie Analogien auf zwischen den Tiergeschichten bzw. -exegesen und dem legendären Leben und Wirken des Märtyrers. So interpretiert, erhält das bislang unbeachtete Deckenprogramm kunsthistorische Relevanz als innovatives Beispiel der Heiligenverehrung.
