Sprache wird meist als ein neutrales, abbildendes Medium gesehen. Ihre diskriminierende Funktion wird in der Regel in der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung auf Schimpfwörter beschränkt. Tatsächlich aber kommt Diskriminierung in verschleierter und übertragener Weise weit häufiger vor, als es auf den ersten Blick erscheint. Manche Begriffe sind nicht von vorneherein rassistisch, werden aber durch die Art ihrer Verwendung rassistisch aufgeladen. Un- oder unterbewusster oder "gut gemeinter" Rassismus in alltäglichen Sprachpraktiken wird mit konkreten Beispielen aufgedeckt und es werden Alternativen angeboten.
