Deus definiri nequit, Gott ist nicht zu definieren, gilt als Sprach- und Denkregel der Theologie. Deus nominari nequit dagegen gilt nicht. Gott ist beim Namen zu nennen, denn sonst bliebe er ganz ungesagt, und nichts wäre unangemessener. Doch wie und mit welchen Namen, was dabei geschieht, das ist seit jeher strittig. Vorgelegt werden exegetische und religionswissenschaftliche Beiträge. Auf diesem Hintergrund führt der Weg über die Septuaginta in das Neue Testament und die christologische Verdichtung der Namensfrage. Von der Prägnanz dieser Verdichtung aus wird dann prospektiv der Horizont abgeschritten, in dem die Namen Gottes gegenwärtig zu verstehen und verantwortlich zu gebrauchen sind. Die 'namenstheologischen' Studien führen von der negativen Theologie über das Verhältnis von Trinität und Tetragramm bis in die Unendlichkeit des Namens mit dem Ziel, Gott zu nennen und nicht namenlos bleiben zu lassen.
