Mehr als ein Jahrhundert lang hatten polnische Kinder Schulen besucht, die den Bestimmungen der Teilermächte Österreich, Preußen und Russland unterworfen waren. Erst nachdem als Ergebnis des ersten Weltkrieges Polen wieder selbstständig geworden war, konnte ein neues, nationales Schulwesen aufgebaut werden. Doch dafür blieben nur 20 Jahre der Entwicklung, denn durch die deutsche Okkupation wurde wieder alles zerstört, sodass nach 1945 erneut die wegen der fehlenden Mittel noch schwieriger gewordene Einrichtung eines leistungsfähigen Bildungswesens begonnen werden musste. Im Rahmen der Kooperation zwischen der Uniwersytet Mikolaja Kopernika in Toruń und der Carl von Ossietzky in Oldenburg ist dieses Problem zum Gegenstand der gemeinsamen wissenschaftlichen Arbeit einiger Wissenschaftler geworden. 〈dt.〉
