Von beiden Elektroden breitet sich mit Strombeginn eine Lichterscheinung nach der Mitte des Bogens hin aus. Die Wirkung der negativen Elektrode beginnt etwas früher als die der positiven. Doch breitet sich diese schneller aus. Manche Linien, wie z. B. das Paar 4047 des K, sind noch relativ lange Zeit nach Erlöschen des Bogens sichtbar, ebenfalls die Emission des Wasserstoffes (aktiver Wasserstoff?). Diese und andere Linien gehen in ihrer Intensität der Stromstärke parallel, während umgekehrt andere Linien, wie z. B. die Funkenlinien des C und Ca, um so intensiver werden, je weiter die Abkühlung der Elektroden fortschreitet. Die Cy-Banden sind in der Nullphase des Bogens schwach in der Mitte, relativ stark in der Nähe der Elektroden. Bei kurzen Bogen erscheinen sie daher scheinbar in allen Phasen, verschwinden bei langen Bogen in der Mitte des Bogens. Die Al-Banden und gewisse Al-Linien verhalten sich umgekehrt. Man kann etwa sagen, daß das Spektrum der Nullphase ein Flammenspektrum sei. Für weitere Einzelheiten sehe man etwa BROWN 1), CREW und BAKER 2), HUFF 3), DE WATTEVILLE 4), CREW und SPENCE 5), PUCCIANTI 6) und neuere Arbeiten, z. B. von RAMSAUER und WOLF 7). Faßt man die zahlreichen in den Einzelheiten vielfach widerspruchsvollen Beobachtungen zusammen, so scheint es zunächst, als ob der Verlauf der Dinge einigermaßen vom Standpunkte eines Temperaturgleichgewichtes zu übersehen sei.
