Die Konservative Revolution galt lange Zeit als ein Begriff für ein spezifisch deutsches Phänomen der europäischen Geistesgeschichte. Daß jedoch Konservative Revolution als ideengeschichtliche Kategorie auch für die Erforschung der Zwischenkriegszeit in Großbritannien ein fruchtbarer Zugang sein kann, ist Ausgangspunkt des Aufsatzes. Es soll gezeigt werden, wie sich während und nach der Weltwirtschaftskrise in Großbritannien eine neue Form des rechts-intellektuellen Diskurses entwickelte, dessen Vertreter in Parlamentarismus und Parteiendemokratie ganz und gar nichts typisch Britisches mehr sehen wollten. Nach einem allgemeinen, den Forschungsstand reflektierenden Teil, soll anhand einiger weniger Beispiele in Ideologie und Geschichtsbild der britischen Neokonservativen eingeführt werden. Im dritten Teil wird das Konzept des "true conservatism" der English Review-Gruppe erläutert und im vierten Teil anhand eines historischen Beispiels wie diese Gruppe Intellektueller ihre Vorstellungen politisch umsetzen wollte. Der fünfte Teil faßt einige Ergebnisse zusammen und wagt den vergleichenden Blick zur Konservativen Revolution in Deutschland. (Vierteljahrshefte für Zeitgeschichte / FUB)

The "Conservative Revolution" has long been regarded as a particularly German phenomenon in European intellectual history. In this essay, the author argues that the interwar period in Britain can be regarded as a time of "Conservative Revolution", too. During and after the world economic crisis a new form of right-wing intellectual discourse developed whose advocates denied that parlamentarism and democracy were original British concepts. After an introductory part that looks at the extensive literature on the subject, the second part of the essay gives an introduction to the British neo-Conservatives' ideology and their interpretation of history. The third part is a case study that deals with the idea of "true conservatism" in the English Review Group, while the fourth part looks at how this group of intellectuals tried to translate their ideas into politics. The final part of the essay gives a summary and attempts to put the "Conservative Revolution" in Germany into a European frame. (Vierteljahrshefte für Zeitgeschichte / FUB)
