Österreichischer Erbfolgekrieg = 1. und 2. Schlesischer Krieg : Nach dem Tod Kaiser Karls VI. 1740 hielten sich manche Unterzeichner der Pragmatischen Sanktion nicht an den Vertrag und stellten die Erbfolge Maria Theresias in Frage. Im Dezember 1740 besetzte der Preußenkönig Friedrich II. Schlesien und löste damit den Österreichischen Erbfolgekrieg aus. Der Siebenjähriger Krieg ist die Bezeichnung für den 3. Schlesischen Krieg und den gleichzeitig zwischen Frankreich und Großbritannien in den amerikanischen Kolonien ausgefochtenen Krieg. Als Großbritannien am 16. 1. 1756 ein Bündnis mit Preußen schloss, verbündeten sich Österreich und Frankreich (Versailler Vertrag vom 1. 5. 1756), mit diesem "Renversement des Alliances" hoffte Schlesien wiederzugewinnen.
