Dieses Buch beschäftigt sich mit dem XX US Corps der 3rd US Army. Im Hinblick auf die Einbindung von Zeitz in den mitteldeutschen Flakgürtel zum Schutz der Treibstoffindustrie und der Lage der Stadt an der rechten Flanke des Angriffsstreifen des V US Corps, kommt dieser Stadt eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Denn damit lag die Stadt Zeitz am 19450412, an dem Tag, als die ersten amerikanischen Truppen die westlichen Stadtränder erreichten, genau auf der Trennungslinie zwischen der 1st US Army und der 3rd US Army. Und Zeitz liegt am Fluss Weiße Elster, dem letzten, großen Wasserhindernis vor der alliierten Haltelinie an der Zwickauer Mulde. Da die geografische Lage seit jeher ein wesentlicher Faktor für militärische Operationen ist, wurde Zeitz in den darauffolgenden Tagen ausschlaggebend für den Verlauf einer Vielzahl von Truppenbewegungen, denn die meisten Brücken über den Fluss waren zerstört oder beschädigt. Dadurch waren die alliierten Panzerspitzen gezwungen, ihre geplanten Vormarschrouten zu verlassen. Neben der detaillierten Darstellung der Truppenbewegungen und Kampfhandlungen im Raum Zeitz beschäftigt sich das Buch ausführlich mit dem Einsatz der Napola-Schüler aus Naumburg und Schulpforte bei den Kämpfen um Zeitz und dem sinnlosen Sterben der Besatzungen der Flakstellungen.
