Boris Velikovsky (1878–1937) trug mit seinen Wohnhäusern, Büroblöcken, Schulen und Fabrikgebäuden maßgeblich zur Architektur der russischen Avantgarde bei. Seine frühen Bauten, wie das Haus Gribov in Moskau, sind noch ganz dem russischen Neoklassizismus verpflichtet; seit der Revolution von 1917 entwarf er zunehmend konstruktivistische Architekturen. Als beispielhaft gilt sein Gostorg-Verwaltungsgebäude, das sich durch Glasfronten, funktionale Raumaufteilung und den Einsatz modernster Materialien auszeichnet. Darüber hinaus setzte sich Velikovsky z.B. in der Gartenstadt Druzhba intensiv mit neuen Ideen der Stadtplanung auseinander. Mit bislang größtenteils unveröffentlichtem Planmaterial, zahlreichen historischen Fotografien und neuen Farbaufnahmen seiner bekanntesten Projekte wird Boris Velikovskys Beitrag zur russischen Avantgarde-Architektur erstmals in einer Publikation gewürdigt.
