Das Verfahren: Der Gieen-Test ist ein Selbstbeurteilungsverfahren, das dem Probanden Gelegenheit gibt, sich selbst und jemand anderen nach Real- und Idealbild einzuschatzen. Er besteht aus 40 bipolar formulierten Feststellungen (z.B.: "Ich habe den Eindruck, ich bin eher geduldig . . . ungeduldig"), die auf einer siebenstufigen Skala nach ihrem Zutreffen beurteilt werden sollen. Die Antworten werden uber 6 Skalen erfasst (Soziale Resonanz, Dominanz, Kontrolle, Grundstimmung, Durchlassigkeit, Soziale Potenz), zwei Kontrollskalen geben Hinweise auf weitere Interpretationsmoglichkeiten. Die Skalenwerte konnen auf ein Profilblatt ubertragen werden, was z.B. den Vergleich von Real- und Idealbild bei einem Probanden oder seiner Werte uber verschiedene Erhebungszeitpunkte erheblich erleichtert

Zuverlassigkeit: Fur den Gesamttest und fur die sechs Skalen wurden in verschiedenen Untersuchungen Reliabilitatskoeffizienten ermittelt. Die Retest-Reliabilitat der sechs Skalen nach sechs Wochen liegen zwischen r = .65 und r = .76 (N = 204). Eine Untersuchung an 235 neurotischen Personen erbrachte eine mittlere interne Stabilitat der Skalen von r = .86
