"Ein Stummfilm-Abenteuer von Ernst Lubitsch, mit dem der aus Berlin stammende Regisseur 1923 seinen Einstand in Hollywood gab, wo er später zu einem Meister der Screwballkomödie aufsteigen sollte. "Rosita" erzählt von einer feurigen spanischen Straßensängerin, in die sich der spanische König verliebt; die Schöne selbst allerdings hat ihr Herz einem feschen Adligen (George Walsh, der Bruder von Regisseur Raoul Walsh, der Lubitsch bei "Rosita" als Co-Regisseur unterstützte) geschenkt, der alsbald ins Visier des eifersüchtigen Monarchen gerät und hingerichtet werden soll. Und dann ist da noch die Königin, die von der unstandesgemäßen Passion ihres Mannes gar nicht begeistert ist und Rosita gerne loswerden würde. Diese hat alle Hände voll zu tun, sich und ihren Liebsten heil aus der ganzen Affäre zu retten.
